Was this an overpay? Probably!! Rationale: I have a lot of pitchers but really only one really good one for the long term. Manaea, Urias, and Madea (if he rebounds) gives me a future to count on at the position. The rear of my guys are on short term deals. So this was as much about the future as it is right now.
Garcia gives me a cheap replacement for losing Biggio. Biggio will be a stud but he’s been hurt and I’ve done well without him. Plus the deal wouldn’t happen without him. I took the 5 million because we all overpaid for guys this year and that at least got closer to his actual value. essentially it means I’m
Paying Manaea 11 million with biggios dead money but I feel he’s worth it. Reks softens the blow of losing my three best OF prospects and the other Garcia gives me a replacement for Nola.
Today based on the season so far my team got better but my farm took a blow. I already feel a roster crunch so I take comfort that most of the prospects I traded were close to MLB ready. Hendricks and Campos are
Different and more with my timeline but I had to make sacrifices. As
For as Perez and Winn I just liked my depth there. I managed stay with a good volume of draft picks left so I’m happy with that.
The Marlins were tough but fair negotiators. Probably better then me because I gave up more then I wanted but he trades a value pitcher and took on contract with a lot of money owed. So I don’t blame him for trying to get everything he possibly could.
All in all we should both see benefits from this trade and in turn the league will balance itself out.
Marlins to confirm and good luck to them!
